About Veronica Meter: As vice president of government affairs, Veronica Meter advocates on behalf of the chamber’s 6,500 business members regarding public policy issues at the local, state and federal levels. She is working to preserve a pro-business environment that is essential to economic recovery. She has been particularly active in advocating for the reform of Nevada’s public employees’ retirement program and benefits that have a multi-billion dollar unfunded liability. Prior to joining the Chamber, Meter served as the director of public relations for the United States Government Printing Office in Washington for four years. Prior to that, she served as executive producer of Las Vegas ONE TV from June 1999 to May 2003 where she created and launched several news programs. She has also served as news producer for KLAS-TV, producer and host for KLVX-TV Vegas PBS and news and public affairs director for Telemundo Channel 39, where she helped launch the valley’s first nightly newscast entirely in Spanish. Meter is a graduate of Leadership Las Vegas Class of 2009 and has been active with the American Cancer Society and United Way of Southern Nevada.

The most important issue facing the valley: The economy has contributed to historic unemployment rates, state budget shortfalls and lack of overall confidence. Helping nurture new and existing businesses will lead to job creation and eventually economic recovery.

My mentor and why: My parents. They moved a young family to a new country, new culture and new language so my brother, sister and I could have every opportunity for a brighter future.

Favorite Web site: www.yahoo.com. Many of my searches begin there. It’s an oldie, but a goodie.

Hobbies: Cycling, running, traveling, politics, interior design and fashion.

Fantasy job: Leading my own strategic communications company to help people navigate through political, media and public relations challenges

One-word description of self: Determined
