Sunny skies ahead for Las Vegas

Storm moving into western Arizona and southern Rockies today

A Pacific storm system that brought widespread rain Saturday to the Las Vegas Valley has moved east, leaving behind mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 60s today for Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm system is moving east across eastern Mohave County in Arizona and the southern Rockies today, forecasters said.

Saturday's rainfall amounts around the Las Vegas Valley were .14 of an inch at McCarran International Airport, .03 of an inch at North Las Vegas Airport, a trace at Nellis Air Force Base and .2 of an inch at Henderson Executive Airport.

High pressure will build in from the west today and Monday, then another storm system will move through the Great Basin Wednesday and Thursday, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 44 degrees, which is the normal low for today's date. The record low for today's date was 19 degrees, set in 1962.

Around the valley just before 7 a.m., temperatures were 45 degrees at McCarran, 47 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 41 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 40 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley will rise to 50 degrees by 9 a.m., to 60 degrees by noon and to 65 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 66 degrees and the record high was 82 degrees, set in 1986 and 1972.

Winds are expected to be between 13 and 15 mph today, gusting up to 22 mph, forecasters said.

If you're going out tonight, temperatures will fall to 59 degrees by 6 p.m., to 52 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 48 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Monday's morning low will be 42 degrees and Monday's high will be 67 degrees, they said.
