St. John’s signee Amir Garrett leads Findlay Prep to victory

Beyond the Sun

Amir Garrett, the Findlay Prep senior who signed with St. John’s this week, scored 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting Thursday to lead the Henderson-based Pilots to a 139-92 win against visiting Arizona Prep.

Garrett, whose career started at Las Vegas’ Sierra Vista High, added 12 rebounds and took a pair of charges in Findlay’s fourth straight victory to open the season.

The 6-foot-5 swingman left Sierra Vista after his sophomore year and played last winter at Leuzinger High in Lawndale, Calif. His recruiting stock skyrocketed this summer when he dominated with Belmont Shore, one of the nation's elite AAU franchises.

Six Findlay players reached double figures in the win, including Arizona signee Nick Johnson’s team-high 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Texas signee Myck Kabongo had 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists, while junior Winston Shepard added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Nigel Williams-Goss had 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting with eight rebounds and seven assists. Junior Landen Lucas had a game-high 17 rebounds.
