Niko Kapeli set the school record for rushing yards as Liberty (6-1, 4-0) flew past Coronado (2-5, 1-4) Friday night 62-25.

Kapeli rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He received the bulk of the work at running back with Ty Byrd missing his second straight game with a sore knee.

Teddy Efthemeou, Teu Tai, Jordan Kapeli and Kai Nacua each added rushing touchdowns. Liberty scored on all but two of its offensive possessions.

“We finally started a game right and played well from the opening whistle,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “Our offense clicked right away and kept going.”

The defense wasn’t shabby, either. Kimo Seau led the defensive effort and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Liberty takes on Foothill next week for the Southeast Division championship.

“It’s undoubtedly the biggest game in our school’s history,” Muraco said. “Our kids are really looking forward to it.”
