Updated Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 | 10:59 p.m.

North Las Vegas Police are investigating a homicide near Clayton Street and Gowan Avenue, Sgt. Tim Bedwell said.

Bedwell said authorities responded to reports of a man being shot at 8:51 p.m at a house in the 3600 block of Iverson Lane. Bedwell said when officers arrived, they found a man dead from a gunshot wound on the front lawn. Police said the victim was at the residence to do maintenance work.

A preliminary investigation indicates a man approached and tried to rob the victim, police said. For unknown reasons, the suspect shot the victim at least once before fleeing on foot, police said.

There have been no arrests and investigators are not yet releasing any suspect information, police said.

This is the 11th murder in North Las Vegas in 2010, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
