North Las Vegas records third fatal shooting in 24 hours

Fatal shooting

North Las Vegas Police are investigating the third homicide in the city in less than 24 hours after a man was shot near Civic Center Drive and Carey Avenue.

Officers went to the 1600 block of Putnam Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving calls of a disturbance in the street involving 10 or more adults.

When officers arrived most of the people had fled the area or were in the process of leaving, police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said, but officers found an 18-year-old man in the street with a fatal gunshot wound.

Police said a teenager, possibly a juvenile, pulled a gun and shot the victim at least once during the disturbance.

Officers don’t believe anyone else was hit despite the large number of people in the area, Bedwell said.

As of Saturday night, police had not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting, officials said. Investigators want anyone with information — including witnesses who wish to remain anonymous — to come forward.

The shooting is the 13th homicide in North Las Vegas this year and the third since Friday evening, when a man was shot after an apparent robbery. Another man died early Saturday after being shot Friday night at the Opera House Casino. Police don’t believe the events are related.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is being asked to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
