The tough Southeast Division

Las Vegas Sun reporters Case Keefer and Ray Brewer break down high school football's tough Southeast Division. Five of the league's seven teams are part of the Sun's top-10 rankings.

James Durbin's 27-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining capped a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback for the Green Valley High football team in its 38-35 win against host Rancho.

Green Valley trailed 35-13 in the second half but closed the game with 25 unanswered points. The Gators scored 17 points in the final eight minutes, recovering two onside kicks to gain extra possessions.

The win was their first of the year in three games.

“We told the kids all week that this was a must-win game,” Green Valley coach Matt Gerber said. “Even though it wasn’t a league game, we needed this one. We needed some momentum, especially going into divisional play next week.”

Paul McKay had two touchdown passes in the second half for Green Valley, which also received rushing scores from Aaron Love and Rakeem Griffin

Rancho fell to 1-2.
