More than 100 volunteers with Kimberly Clark Professional, a sustainability-minded producer of restroom products, cleaned up trash Wednesday near Boulder Beach in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
As part of the company’s “Reduce Today, Respect Tomorrow” campaign, another group of KCP employees assembled bicycles in Lake Las Vegas to donate to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, which will pass the bikes on to at-risk youth in Henderson.
Lisa Morden, KCP’s global sustainability leader, said the company launched the campaign on Earth Day in April. KCP has a corporate philosophy of “reducing the use of natural resources throughout the life cycle of our products,” according to its website.
Jan Spencer, the company’s senior vice president for sustainability, said the effort was a team-building exercises for its employees and a way to reach out to the community.
KCP already has conducted similar clean-up projects in Atlanta and Philadelphia.
The company also donated $5,000 to the National Park Service for its reforestation and other environmental projects and another $5,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
