Strong-legged Gorman kicker to walk on at UNR

Colin Distworth expects to compete for Wolf Pack’s place kicking, kick off duties

The best Nevada high school place kicker is hoping to become the best kicker on the UNR football team.

Bishop Gorman High senior Colin Ditsworth recently accepted a walk-on offer at UNR and expects to immediately compete for the Wolf Pack’s kickoff and place kicking duties. If he wins the job, a scholarship offer could follow, he said.

The strong-legged Ditsworth, who had 66 touchbacks last fall on 99 kickoffs, took an unofficial recruiting trip during UNR’s spring practice.

“It’s so close to home,” he said. “I love the campus. I saw the team scrimmage and feel I can fit in.”

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Ditsworth was perfect on 91 extra point attempts this fall, also connecting on six field goals. He had three field goals in the first half in the season opener against Hamilton High.

Ditsworth, a converted soccer player, was a four-year varsity performer. He started his final three years, helping the Gaels to consecutive state titles to close his career.
