LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

The right wing doesn’t speak for everyone

Where are the voices from the left? It seems all I hear are the rants of the Tea Party and the posturing of members of Congress who have decided to balance the federal budget by starting at the bottom and working up. Sound familiar?

Where were these voices on the right when Republicans had control of the House, the Senate and the White House? Not a sound to be heard from them while their party was racking up trillions in debt.

But like new Republican governors (including our own), the right has somehow blamed the middle class (teachers, police officers, firefighters, etc.) for the downturn in the economy. The big banks, financial companies, the very rich, etc., suddenly have a free pass.

Somehow the right has convinced the middle class and the poor they are the ones who are to blame and, as such, the ones who must pay. The “everyone must share the pain” story is a lie.

Look around, folks. Speak up! The federal government will soon be shut down because the right wants the cuts to come from the bottom, including cuts in programs for the poor, the elderly, the mentally ill, etc. — but the right refuses to look at the top. Now is the time to let your voices be heard.
