LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

State’s future hinges on some difficult questions

I really liked David Adams’ Monday letter to the editor, headlined “Some ‘what ifs’ for Nevada’s economy.” It was simply and powerfully stated.

I’d like to pick up on the “what if” theme.

What if everything happens in the next few months as it is currently going?

What if the budget cuts for the state hold; what if Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Republicans in the Legislature get what they want; what if the Democrats can’t do anything about it?

What if the power brokers in Las Vegas and Reno do nothing but sit on the sidelines?

What if the education system at all levels in Nevada is gutted; if essential public services are ended; if infrastructure repairs are put aside?

What if Nevada remains last on all the good lists and first on all the bad lists?

What if Nevada’s tax system remains rooted in the 19th century?

What if we all have to sit and wait for the public to come back to Nevada and spend their money to revive our economy?

What if none of us participate in our society and let other people worry about it?

What if all the good things about Nevada become an empty shell; will they be proud of their work?
