The Clark County Coroner's Office today identified a 1-year-old boy who drowned in a backyard swimming pool Wednesday as Arturo Rubio Roa.
The coroner ruled the death an accidental drowning.
Authorities said the drowning occurred in the 1900 block of Fontana Avenue, near Rancho Drive and Alta Drive. Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the boy's mother told police she took her eyes off Roa for about five minutes, then found him in the pool.
The mother took Roa to Valley Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, but he later died, police said.
Meltzer said other adults also were at the home at the time of the drowning.
