LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

State legislators ignore needed campaign reforms

Jon Ralston’s Sunday column, “Counting on public apathy to kill campaign reform,” hit the nail on the head. The “Gang of 63,” as Ralston has accurately nicknamed it, is counting on we the people’s apathy and nonaction to allow it to do nothing to enact true campaign reform.

The Gang of 63, in its self-serving arrogance, refuses to truly disclose campaign contributors in a timely manner.

The public, including the media and honest government groups, every year complain and request stiffer election laws, campaign finance transparency and disclosures from shadowy third-party groups. And, every legislative session, both Democratic and Republican legislators ignore us.

This bipartisan incumbent-protectionism betrays the public will and trust, yet we allow it. And we praise and re-elect these schemers. That’s what they are, otherwise we wouldn’t be complaining against them.

Enough of this hypocritical whining and complaining on our part while we continue to elect such legislators. Suckers and masochists get what they deserve, especially Nevada voters who, election after election, show a psychological addiction to political abuse and being double-crossed by the very legislators they elect to office.
