Regarding Brian Greenspun’s Tuesday column, “Basketball has been good to Las Vegas — Rice can shape next Rebel dynasty”:
Over four decades, the UNLV men’s basketball program has experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, and each of us remembers the exhilarating 1990 championship season led by coach Jerry Tarkanian.
UNLV has grown with Las Vegas and today nothing brings the Southern Nevada community together quite like the Rebels.
As the UNLV men’s basketball program begins a new chapter, I congratulate UNLV President Neil Smatresk, Athletic Director Jim Livengood and the entire Rebel community on selecting a new head coach.
I welcome Dave Rice back to Las Vegas and wish him and the Rebels success for years to come, both in the classroom and on the hardwood.
