Metro releases name of injured motorcycle officer

Metro Police identified a motorcycle officer injured Thursday in a crash on Las Vegas Boulevard as Tony McCleery, 54, who has been with the department since August 1993.

Officials said McCleery, assigned to the Traffic Bureau, was investigating an accident on Las Vegas Boulevard, south of Sunset Road near Town Square, about 1:35 a.m. on Thursday when he was injured.

While McCleery was off of his motorcycle, a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling south on Las Vegas Boulevard hit the motorcycle, which then struck the officer and an unoccupied 2001 BMW involved in the initial accident, police said.

McCleery was thrown about 50 feet, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center with a skull fracture, two broken ribs, a punctured lung, a fractured vertebrae and a dislocated left knee.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified on Thursday as Brandon Potts, 42, of Henderson, police said.

Potts was arrested on a count of DUI-substantial bodily harm involving alcohol and was being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail. Potts was not injured in the crash.
