LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

GOP takes cruel path to balancing the federal budget

When the Republicans had the majority in the House and the Senate and George W. Bush was president, no plans were made to lower the federal deficit by reducing spending.

Now the GOP’s right-wing members of Congress have decided to repair the wrongdoing of many years ago and to cut the federal deficit on the backs of retirees, workers, the poor and the sick — who aren’t responsible for the largest federal deficit.

At the same time, these right-wing members of Congress are protecting government giveaways to the wealthiest farmers, rich and famous Americans, the big oil companies, businesses and corporations (including those that moved overseas looking for cheap labor and pay no taxes whatsoever).

“The Path to Prosperity” plan by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., aims to cut individual and corporate income tax rate to 25 percent from the current 35 percent to encourage economic growth, and it would make permanent the Bush-era tax cuts for wealthiest Americans by cutting federal spending.

Ryan’s “path to prosperity” would tax the poor and feed the rich, as usual. I hope the American people wake up.
