Governor gets bill to extend deadline for notifying teachers about jobs

Sun Coverage

CARSON CITY – The Senate, in emergency action Tuesday, approved a bill to give Nevada’s 17 school districts an extra two weeks to notify their workers about whether they will be employed next school year.

The current deadline is May 1 and the measure would extend the date to May 16 because of uncertainties in public school funding by the Legislature.

With the extension, employees would have until May 25 to tell the district whether they will accept the contract.

Assembly Bill 565 would extend the deadline only for this year.

The Assembly passed the bill last week as an emergency measure and it now goes to the governor.
