The City of Henderson has announced the winners of the Heritage Parade held on Saturday to celebrate the city’s 58th birthday.

More than 60 entries competed in four categories: Floats, marching groups, equestrian entries and special interest vehicles. The groups were led by parade grand marshal Ethel M Chocolates and traveled a mile-long route on Water Street, from Ocean Avenue to Victory Road. More than 25,000 spectators attended the parade and festival.

Each entry was judged on theme, creativity and overall appeal. This year’s parade theme celebrated the 30th anniversary of Ethel M Chocolates.

In the floats category, The Journey Church won the first place prize of $1,000. Second place winner Desert Doxies of Las Vegas received $750 and The Monkey Gym came in third place, winning $500.

The other three groups received ribbons as awards.

In the Marching Groups, the Basic High School band came in 1st, followed by the Green Valley High School band and Danza de Carriza.

Among the Equestrian Entries, Wells Fargo won 1st place and the Henderson Saddle Association came in 2nd.

Tin Lizzies won 1st place in the special interest vehicle category. Mustang Club of Las Vegas came in 2nd and the Military Order of the Purple Heart received 3rd place.

The City of Henderson also announced the popular People’s Choice Award, where on-site spectators and TV viewers watching the parade live texted their vote for their favorite parade entry.

For the second consecutive year, the Burkholder Middle School Marching band won the title, as well as $500 in prize money. The People’s Choice Award winner was announced on Saturday during a ceremony at the Henderson Events Plaza.
