Warming into mid 80s for Las Vegas Valley

Forecasters predicting storm system to bring gusty winds Wednesday and Thursday

It's another good day to head for the pool — mostly sunny skies and above-normal temperatures soaring into the mid 80s are heading this afternoon to the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

A dry westerly flow will be over the region today, with lighter winds and temperatures climbing several degrees above normal, the weather service said.

Another Pacific storm system will move into northern California Wednesday and into Nevada on Thursday, forecasters said.

That storm will generate gusty winds across much of the area on both days, while also bringing a chance of showers across portions of he southern Great Basin, they said.

Above normal temperatures are still expected Wednesday, but Thursday's peak temperatures will drop to around normal as the system moves into Nevada.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 62 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 55 degrees. The record low was 35 degrees, set in 1968.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 62 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 58 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 60 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 70 degrees by 9 a.m., to 80 degrees by noon and reach a high of 86 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 79 degrees and the record high was 39 degrees, set in 1938.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 82 degrees by 7 p.m., to 77 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 72 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 64 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 87 degrees, they said.
