Bonneville Avenue in downtown Las Vegas is now a one-way street, and Clark Avenue soon will be as well.

Bonneville is now for eastbound traffic only between First Street and Las Vegas Boulevard. Clark will be for westbound traffic in the same area beginning May 1.

The city began a project to convert the two streets in October as part of the redevelopment of the area, which includes the Regional Justice Center, the new Bonneville Transit Center and the under-construction City Hall.

The $5 million project includes removing and replacing the road surface on both streets, installing new curbs and gutters, landscaping, upgrading traffic signals and new road striping, city officials said. The streets will also have bike lanes.

While the roads will both be one-way soon, crews will remain at work in the area, and lane restrictions may be in effect until the project is finished in October.

New traffic signals on Third Street at both Bonneville and Clark are in a flashing red mode, making the intersections all-way stops until the signals are activated.

The city’s Public Works Department is managing the project, which is funded by the Regional Transportation Commission. Tand Inc. is the contractor.
