Las Vegas ranks No. 9 on list of questionable insurance claims

A new report on the growing number of questionable insurance claims for vehicle collisions shows Las Vegas has the ninth most of such claims in the nation.

In 2010, Las Vegas had 174 questionable claims, according to a report being released today by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, a nonprofit organization supported by insurance companies to fight insurance crimes.

In 2009 there were 85,044 questionable claims reported to the bureau from across the country, while 91,645 claims were reported in 2010.

Las Vegas saw an increase similar to that of other cities, but maintained the same No. 9 ranking it held in 2009, when it had 132 questionable claims.

New York City had the most questionable claims, followed by Tampa and Orlando, Fla., Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, Baltimore and Chicago. Detroit took the No. 10 spot behind Las Vegas.

Among states, Nevada came in at No. 13 on the list, with 243 questionable claims. That's a move up from 2009, when Nevada was No. 17 with 173 questionable claims.

Florida, California, New York, Texas and Maryland led states with questionable claims, while Maine, Vermont, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota came in at the bottom of the list.
