Dream Vision’s Shabazz Muhammad is surrounded by media after playing the Atlanta Celtics Friday, July 22, 2011 during the adidas Super 64 tournament.

Now, it's as official as it will get: Bishop Gorman's Shabazz Muhammad is the nation's unanimous top overall hoops prospect in the 2012 senior class.

ESPN released its updated 2012 player rankings on Wednesday morning, bumping the 6-foot-6 wing from No. 3 to the top spot. This comes roughly a month after Rivals.com did the same, and Muhammad also owns the No. 1 tag in Scout.com's rankings. Whether you buy into the rankings or not, it's a notable achievement for Muhammad.

"Once Shabazz Muhammad's high school season ended, the wing went to work," ESPN.com senior recruiting analyst Dave Telep wrote. "He took up with a strength coach, committed himself to fitness and obsessed about working out. Through the spring, Muhammad stated his case step by step for the top spot through a series of outings that verified all the chatter and bumped him from No. 3 to No. 1."

The lone event left on Muhammad's summer schedule is the Boost Mobile Elite 24 event in Venice Beach, Calif., during the last weekend in August.

As for his recruitment, the latest developments include visits this week to Southern Cal — the alma mater of his father, Ron Holmes — and UCLA. He has yet to trim down his official 'list' of potential suitors, but likely will do so before his senior season starts. That list will likely also include UNLV, Duke, Kentucky and Texas A&M.

The move up to ESPN's top spot doesn't come as much of a shock, but it only helps solidify Muhammad's status as the biggest basketball recruit the city of Las Vegas has ever produced.
