Sandoval names PUC chairwoman

CARSON CITY – Alaina Burtenshaw, a member of the state Public Utilities Commission, has been elevated to chairwoman by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

She replaces Samuel Thompson, who resigned from the commission. Sandoval still must appoint a third member to the commission, which regulates electric, natural gas, water and other utilities in Nevada.

Burtenshaw has been a commission for one year. She previously was a staff member as counsel and assistant counsel.

She has handled water, natural gas and electric cases both in Northern and Southern Nevada. She has also been involved in environmental impacts, renewable energy and railroad safety.
