The North Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday evening promoted Joseph Chronister from acting to permanent police chief.
Chronister, 47, started as an officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department in September 1989 and is an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Acting City Manager Maryann Ustick named Chronister acting police chief in June 2010 to replace outgoing Chief Joseph Forti.
Chronister's annual salary will be $166,954.
“I am humbled by this appointment and the trust placed in me,” Chronister said in a statement. “I truly look forward to leading the exceptional men and women of our department against all challenges, making this community as safe as possible, and securing the trust of our citizens.”
Chronister served as assistant police chief prior to taking on the role of acting police chief.
“Chief Chronister is the right choice to lead our police department into the future,” Mayor Shari Buck said. "I have faith and confidence that our citizens are well served by this decision.”
