A Las Vegas family was out of town Saturday when its mobile home caught fire and was badly damaged.

The fire was in the Pecos Mobile Home Park, 200 N. Pecos Road, near Stewart Avenue. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue received several phone calls beginning at 1:20 p.m. from passing motorists on U.S. 95, which runs directly behind the park.

Firefighters from both the city and county put out the fire, which appeared to have started in the rear of the home, where a bedroom and outside wall were damaged, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The rest of the home had heat and smoke damage, but some of the home’s contents were salvageable, Szymanski said.

One neighbor was checked by paramedics at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, but no one was injured in the fire.

The three adult residents of the house are coming back to Las Vegas after being notified of the fire by relatives, Szymanski said.

Total damage from the fire is estimated at $35,000. The cause remains under investigation.
