Bill calls for outlaw of ‘fake cocaine’ hallucinogen in Nevada

CARSON CITY – A drug referred to as "fake cocaine" would be put on the list of prohibited drugs in Nevada under a bill introduced by Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas.

He said the use of the drug was a serious problem, especially among young people, referring to the process of converting bath salts into a hallucinogen.

The bath salts are sold in many stores, he said. Several other states have acted to outlaw use of the drug.

Parks’ bill, Senate Bill 223, would require the state Board of Pharmacy to declare it a controlled substance subject to civil and criminal penalties for its manufacture and distribution.

The bill was referred to the Health and Human Services Committee.
