Broadway in the Hood planned for West Las Vegas Library

Broadway is coming to the West Las Vegas Library, which is hosting the Broadway in the Hood Theatre Festival this Friday and Saturday.

The festival will celebrate "extraordinary stories told by people from different racial, social and economic backgrounds," the library said in a news release. Admission is free.

More than 20 "provocative and groundbreaking" performances will be given by local and national artists, the library said. Performances will include visual presentations, workshops, monologue competitions, educational and scholarship information and interactive discussions.

The city of Las Vegas' office of cultural affairs and the West Las Vegas Arts Center are co-sponsoring the event. For more information, call (702) 507-3989 or visit the festival's website.
