Three people were taken to University Medical Center in serious condition after two cars collided on Cheyenne Avenue in North Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

North Las Vegas Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said the accident happened at 1:27 p.m. on Cheyenne Avenue west of Interstate 15. Police have shut down the eastbound and westbound lanes of the road from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Revere Street. The road was reopened shortly after 5 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates one vehicle exiting an apartment complex turned in front of an oncoming vehicle, Coon said.

The department's major crash investigation team is at the scene.
