A Metro Police officer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a two-vehicle accident this morning in the western valley, authorities said.

Metro spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said a patrol car and another vehicle collided at 8:46 a.m. near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Arville Street.

The officer suffered a laceration to his hand and was taken to University Medical Center, Morgan said. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Valley Hospital Medical Center after complaints of chest pain, she said.

It's unclear what led to the collision and who is at fault, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Police were asking drivers to avoid the area while they clear the accident scene.
