Temperatures climbing to upper 70s again for Las Vegas

Forecasters predicting warm temperatures through next week

Mostly sunny skies with warm afternoon temperatures are heading to Las Vegas today as daylight saving time gets under way.

The extra hour of daylight will see temperatures climbing into the upper 70s by late afternoon, about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.

Dry and mild weather will remain over the region through the middle of the week as fast-moving storms stay well to the north of the Las Vegas area, the weather service said.

That pattern will bring some gusty winds in the southern Sierra and high clouds and above-normal temperatures for the entire region, forecasters said.

There is a chance that a large storm could bring gusty winds and a chance of rain next weekend, they said.

At 6:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 53 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 46 degrees. The record low was 25 degrees, set in 1956 and 1950.

Around the valley just before 7 a.m., temperatures were 57 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 50 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 48 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 61 degrees by 9 a.m., to 72 degrees by noon and reach a high of 78 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 69 degrees and the record high was 90 degrees, set in 2007.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 76 degrees by 6 p.m., to 68 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 62 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Monday's morning low will be 57 degrees and Monday's high will climb to 79 degrees, they said.
