LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Parents must resist more school cuts

I don’t understand the deafening silence from the parents of children in Clark County schools concerning Gov. Brian Sandoval’s proposed budget cuts for schools. It’s well-known that Nevada has never adequately supported its schools, but the budget proposal by the governor would reduce these meager amounts even more.

You may not care that teachers will be laid off, unless you realize what that means is that children will have to be stuffed into classrooms already full. This is your child’s future at stake here.

So far the governor is adamant in refusing to raise taxes, no matter the effect it will have on children, and Republican legislators have given him total support. Nevada’s Democratic legislators are seeking ways to stop the large cuts that have been proposed, but they are getting no support from Republicans.

So for the sake of your child, make a point of contacting your Nevada legislator, and tell them you want adequate funding for our schools.
