Nevada’s construction employment increased in January and February, but the state maintained its spot as the leader in construction job losses over the past year.

Nevada ranked 50th with its construction employment falling 9.4 percent between February 2010 and February 2011. The number of construction jobs fell in that time span from 62,900 to 57,000, according to statistics released today by the Associated General Contractors of America.

The bright spot is that since December construction employment hasn't fallen in Nevada. The number of construction jobs rose by 200 from 56,800 in December to 57,000 in February.

One hundred jobs were added in both January and February.

Arizona was the 43rd-ranked state in construction job losses between February 2010 and February 2011, dropping 5.8 percent.

Tennessee had the biggest year-over-year percentage increase among states at 8.6 percent, followed by 6.8 percent in Pennsylvania. The District of Columbia had a 15.8 percent increase, adding 1,500 jobs.

Texas has the most construction jobs of any state with 592,100, a 31,500 increase since February 2010.
