LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Voters didn’t get what they wanted

I was hoping that the 2010 elections were going to bring the parties together so they could work on job creation, budget deficits, the national debt and tax reform. I thought we would have a repeat of the Clinton administration, when these events occurred. Alas, I was completely wrong. Republicans abandoned those items; they are instead pushing other ideas forward.

We have a Republican Party at the state and federal level attacking the working and poor classes. Taxes that could be used for revenue are handed over to big businesses, leaving a gaping hole in many state budgets. Ohio had a revenue spike of

$230 million from alcohol sales, but the governor wants to hand that money to the wealthy. In New Jersey, the budget cuts proposed by Gov. Chris Christie were ruled unconstitutional. New Hampshire and other states are looking at cutting taxes on cigarettes. The worst of the lot are huge cuts to education nationwide.

We also have an attack on abortions, Planned Parenthood and health services in general. Creationism is an item high on their agenda, attempting to introduce Bible teaching in public schools.

We elected people to help the job market and balance our debts, but we got a group of people pushing religious agendas and handing more wealth over to the wealthiest in the country at the expense of the working class.
