I’d like to respond to the article by Brian Greenspun regarding his idea on reviving the Las Vegas economy.
I would like to offer a simple solution. Vegas needs jobs! And good paying ones, not minimum wage jobs.
If you create jobs, everything else will follow. It does no good to bail out those who have chosen to take out two or three mortgages to buy their Hummers, boats, fancy furniture, take trips, etc., because they will just do it again. As far as I’m concerned they don’t deserve any bailout from the taxpayers, period.
On the other hand, those who lost their jobs, and hence lost their homes, would benefit greatly from getting back to work! If you make homes available to people who don’t have jobs, what good does that do? Nothing.
