Henderson lawyer who pleaded guilty in HOA scheme found beaten on roadside

Lawyer found beaten

Henderson police found a 57-year-old attorney lying beaten today on a Henderson roadside just weeks after pleading guilty in a scheme to swindle homeowners’ associations in the valley.

David Amesbury was found by police at 6 a.m. on Dogwood Ranch Avenue in an area near South Eastern Avenue and Sunridge Heights Parkway.

According to police he had been severely assaulted and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Amesbury pleaded guilty on Oct. 24 to charges of conspiracy to commit mail, wire and bank fraud in attempts to take control of HOA boards, according to the Department of Justice.

From March 2008 until September 2008 Amesbury admitted to participating in the HOA takeover scheme and to rigging elections so boards that preside over residential areas would allow construction lawsuits and contracts be handled by a law firm and construction company chosen by Amesbury’s co-conspirators, according to the Department of Justice.

Amesbury is the eighth person to plead guilty in connection with this case and is scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 23, 2012, and could face a maximum of 30 years in prison.
