During the Bush years, the idea that the deregulation of the banking system, plus the government’s belief that the people who controlled the country’s economy would act responsibly, created the mess we are in. The result is that we now have the best Congress money can buy.
Those who espouse a capitalistic system without regulation either fail to recognize the degree to which greed will take hold of a society’s most powerful people, or aspire to be one of the greedy. America’s unbridled capitalism will eventually result in a small upper class, a disintegrated middle class and an enormous lower class. Past revolutions in France, China, Cuba and Russia are the biggest reasons all capitalistic countries have government control of their forms of capitalism.
Patience in middle class America is wearing thin. How many more good, hard-working people must lose their homes, spend their life savings due to a health issue, or see their families torn apart by economic problems? The protesters demonstrating on Wall Street and in other cities throughout the country may be the genesis of another of the world’s major revolutions.
