Desert Oasis finished off its regular season with arguably the hottest streak in Las Vegas.

Desert Oasis beat Clark 51-8 on its Senior Night Thursday. Over the last three weeks, Desert Oasis has outscored opponents 158-36.

“The kids are continuing to get better and practicing hard,” Desert Oasis coach Scott Staudinger said. “That’s the most important thing this time of year — to keep the climb going and start to peak.”

A familiar situation beckons for Desert Oasis next week. For the second straight year, the Southwest Division school will host a first round playoff game. For the second straight year, Centennial is the opponent.

Centennial butted its way into the Northwest Division’s No. 3 seed by defeating Cheyenne Thursday night. Centennial held off Desert Oasis for a 16-12 victory last year in the postseason.

“I’m sure there’s a little extra motivation in getting to play them again,” Staudinger said. “But it’s another year. We have been in the playoffs the last three years and haven’t found a way to get over that hump of winning game. It would be great to do it this year.”

The Diamondbacks are a more well-rounded this team this year. Junior quarterback Herman Smith showcased as much by throwing two touchdowns — to Tyler Vazquez and Marvin Duty — against the Chargers.

The usual suspects at running back, Devin Fortenberry and Trevon Barnes, each scored two touchdowns as well.
