Coronado handles Chaparral, 42-14

Chris Johnson and Nate Webb had long touchdown runs for the Coronado football team Friday in a 42-14 win against host Chaparral.

Coronado (2-0) scored on its first possession and didn’t look back in winning for the second straight week to open the season.

Quarterback Kevin Lucero rushed and passed for a touchdown for the Cougars.

Next week, Coronado opens Southeast Division play against Foothill (3-0) — a step up in competition after easy wins against Chaparral and Sunrise Mountain.

“The measuring stick will be our matchup next week with Foothill,” Coronado coach Lance Cooper said. “They are a well-coached team with some good players. The proof will be in the pudding against them.”
