New gaming operator approved for Westin Casuarina

CARSON CITY — The state Gaming Control Board has given preliminary approval to Carson City casino owner Rory Lee Bedore to run the gambling operations at the Westin Casuarina just off the Las Vegas Strip.

Bedore and his trust are taking over a four-year lease from a receiver to run the 268 slot and video games and eight table games.

The state Gaming Commission meets April 19 to take final action on the application.

Bedore said he does not plan any immediate changes in staff. Bedore has managed six casinos in Northern Nevada and purchased the Carson Station out of bankruptcy.

In other action:

• The control board recommended approval Thursday for Thomas E. Soukup as vice president of research and development for Konami Gaming. The company has headquarters in Las Vegas and is licensed in 21 states.

• Dotty’s was recommended for licensing of three more slot parlors. Two will be in Las Vegas — on North Nellis Boulevard and on North Rancho Drive — and will have 35 slot machines. The other license calls for 50 slot machines in Stateline.
