Photos: From kilts to crop tops, how locals beat the heat at First Friday

Even with the midsummer night heat, locals didn't seem to mind crowding the streets of downtown for First Fridays on Aug. 3.

This month's "Art Beach"-themed event included performances by Planet Hollywood's "Surf the Musical," free painting classes and a makeshift beach with real sand amid galleries and craft booths.

As usual, Las Vegans young and old dressed for the occasion: Homemade denim cutoffs and vintage shirts were a popular, breezy look for those who wanted to keep things casual. Others, however, fully embraced the artsy oasis in the middle of the desert by sporting leis, sarongs, bikinis and, yes, even a kilt.

Here's a look at some of First Friday's most fashion-forward attendees and what they had to say about how they're beating the heat.
