Nevada settles tax dispute with Clark County

A state panel has approved an agreement with Clark County to settle a lawsuit over money Nevada took from the local government to balance the state budget.

The Board of Examiners on Wednesday sanctioned the complicated deal that involves shuffling federal money and Medicaid funding formulas.

Under the agreement, the state will provide $35 million in federal transportation funding for Clark County's $50 million airport connector project.

The Medicaid portion reduces by about $16 million the amount Clark County gives to the state to acquire federal matching dollars to pay for indigent hospital care costs.

Clark County sued the state to recoup $103 million in property taxes the state took in 2009. Washoe County settled a similar dispute with the state for $7.2 million.
