Carolyn Ellsworth is sworn in as a new judge for the Eight Judicial District Court.

Carolyn Ellsworth, Clark County’s newest district judge, will be ceremonially inducted during an official investiture program Friday in downtown Las Vegas.

Ellsworth, who is district court judge in Nevada’s Eighth Judicial District, will take her formal oath of office and receive her judicial robes at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. She was earlier sworn in on Oct. 17 and has been working as a judge since that time.

Members of the Nevada Judiciary, including the U.S. District Court for Nevada, Nevada Supreme Court, the Las Vegas Township Justice Court and the Eighth Judicial District Court, will attend Friday's ceremony.

“I am excited to make my investiture and to share the tremendous honor it represents with those who have been supportive of my career,” Ellsworth said in prepared remarks.

Ellsworth was named by Gov. Brian Sandoval to replace former Judge Jackie Glass, who resigned from the bench to be the host of a television reality show, CBS’s Swift Justice.

Ellsworth, who has had a 32-year legal career in Nevada, has been an arbitrator in the Court Annexed Mandatory Arbitration Program, the administrator of the Securities Division in the Nevada Secretary of State’s office, and chief of enforcement for the Securities Division.

She also served more than 10 years with the Clark County District Attorney’s office in a variety of roles, including chief deputy district attorney in charge of the Major Fraud Division.

Ellsworth also worked in private law practice and was vice president of Mirage Resorts’ risk management and was assistant general counsel for the gaming company.

She is a graduate of San Diego State University and Southwestern University School of Law.

Chief Judge Jennifer P. Togliatti said Ellsworth “brings a strong career track record and is a vital addition to the Eighth Judicial District Court.”
