Clear skies, highs in the upper 60s again today in Las Vegas

Cooler weather moving in on Sunday, but 60s to return next week

Temperatures running about eight to 10 degrees above normal will continue to linger in Las Vegas today, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

"Thursday was the ninth consecutive day with temps atop the 60-degree mark, and the hits just keep on coming," Janison said. "Looks like we should be able to enjoy a couple more, beginning with today."

After a cool morning low of 41 degrees, we should top out at 66 degrees under tons of sun, he said.

"By Saturday, temps will remain mild, but winds will begin to increase in the afternoon," he said. "This will be in response to an approaching cool front that will keep the breezes blowing through Sunday."

Beside the breezes, there will be a return to normalcy, with highs in the 50s, he said.

But there's no reason to get used to it.

"You won’t be normal long," he said, "the 60’s will be back Monday."

The National Weather Service says this morning’s low at McCarran was expected to be 41 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 12 degrees, set in 1971 and 1950.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 49 degrees by 9 a.m., to 61 degrees by noon and reach a high of 65 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 57 degrees and the record high was 74 degrees, set in 1962.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 58 degrees by 6 p.m., to 50 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 46 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 42 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 64 degrees, they said.
