Highway officials have released the name of the 62-year-old man who died Thursday night after crashing his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Michael Golden, of Las Vegas, crashed his 1997 motorcycle while heading north on U.S. 95 near Ann Road, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A preliminary investigation report concluded the crash happened about 6:25 p.m. when Golden was traveling in the left lane and approached a Volkswagen Beetle driven by a 21-year-old woman also in the left lane.

Golden lost control of his motorcycle when it drifted onto a center median covered with rocks and dirt, officials said.

He was thrown from his motorcycle, which overturned, officials said.

Golden was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The Volkswagen’s driver door window shattered from rock debris that was kicked up as the motorcycle crashed, officials said.

The Las Vegas woman was not injured in the incident, officials said. The left travel lane of U.S. 95 northbound was shut down for nearly five hours after the crash.
