A pedestrian hit by a pickup truck Tuesday morning near Eastern and Cedar avenues died at the scene, Metro Police said.

Metro spokesman Marcus Martin said police received a call about the accident at 7:29 a.m. Martin said medical personnel pronounced the victim, a woman in her early 30s, dead at the scene. Police had initially said the victim was a juvenile.

The preliminary investigation indicated the driver of the pickup truck was driving south on Eastern Avenue, attempting to turn left onto Cedar Avenue on a green light, Martin said.

Meanwhile, the pedestrian, who police say had the right of way, was walking across Cedar Avenue when the pickup truck struck and rolled over her, Martin said.

The motorist, a male whose identity has not been released, was not arrested. However, Martin said, he could face charges later.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area while they investigate. The eastbound and westbound lanes of Cedar Avenue are closed between Eastern Avenue and 28th Street, Martin said.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has blocked the Eastern Avenue exit from the northbound lanes of U.S. 95, he said. Police also have blocked the intersection of Mesquite and Eastern avenues.
