Two people died in a one-car accident early Thursday at the Las Vegas Beltway and Cheyenne Avenue interchange, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

The NHP identified the victims as Ma Perlita Supnet Macala, 66, who was driving, and her passenger, Eugene Fajardo Macala, 72. Both were from Las Vegas.

Trooper Jeremie Elliott said the accident occurred at about 1:45 a.m., when a white Toyota Camry traveling north on Interstate 215 exited the highway onto the Cheyenne Avenue off-ramp at a high rate of speed. The driver ran a red light at the top of the off-ramp, Elliott said, and the vehicle slammed into two concrete walls.

The victims died on impact, Elliott said.

It’s unclear what caused the accident, which remains under investigation.
