Sunny, but slightly cooler for Las Vegas

Temperatures to reach into upper 50s today

If you like sunny skies you'll be in luck today in Las Vegas, even though it's Friday the 13th.

"A couple of cold fronts drifted through the Las Vegas Valley, leaving us with drier air," said Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

"You may have noticed the lack of humidity, but another byproduct is that the air will have larger spreads between the highs and lows," Janison said.

Friday morning will bottom out at 34 degrees at McCarran, but some neighborhoods will most likely lean against the freezing mark, he said.

"Sunshine galore will dominate the Friday the 13th with an afternoon high reaching 58 degrees, which is the normal high for the date," he said. "An area of low pressure off the Pacific Coast will funnel some cloudiness our way over the weekend, but any rain will most likely stay south… unfortunately, because we could certainly use some rain!"

The National Weather Service said this morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 34 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 8 degrees, set in 1963.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 43 degrees by 9 a.m., to 54 degrees by noon and reach a high of 57 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 58 degrees and the record high was 73 degrees, set in 1945.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 52 degrees by 6 p.m., to 45 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 41 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 36 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 59 degrees, they said.
