Cooler temperatures ahead for Las Vegas

Clouds moving in later this week, best chance for rain over the weekend, says forecaster

A bit cooler weather is on the agenda for Las Vegas for the next couple of days, as highs climb to only the low 50s.

"Tuesday should, as promised over the weekend, be the coolest day of this work week," says Jerry Brown, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

"A lot of people in this country would take that forecast, so no complaints," he said.

He's predicting more cool mornings Wednesday and Thursday.

Brown said dry air would linger until Thursday, when some clouds would move in. He said the best chance for rain will be Saturday and Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, this morning’s low at McCarran was expected to be 36 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 20 degrees, set in 1949.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 41 degrees by 9 a.m., to 48 degrees by noon and reach a high of 51 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 58 degrees and the record high was 74 degrees, set in 2011.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 47 degrees by 6 p.m., to 42 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 39 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 35 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 56 degrees, they said.
