A car slammed into Las Vegas Paving truck early Tuesday on Interstate 15 near Spring Mountain Road, killing a female passenger in the car, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

Trooper Jeremie Elliott said the accident happened about 12:53 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway.

Witnesses told investigators a black BMW sedan was traveling in the far-left lane of I-15 at a high rate of speed when it veered to the right, fishtailed and spun out, Elliott said. He said the car slid toward the middle of the highway and struck the work truck, which was parked along the median.

Road crew workers were in the area at the time of the accident, Elliott said, but no one was in the truck and no crew members were injured.

The BMW’s female passenger died on impact, he said. The driver, a male, was transported to University Medical Center with head trauma. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim pending notification of her family.

The investigation is ongoing.
