Rainbow in Henderson

A rainbow seen in Henderson on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012.

It doesn’t take much for rainbows to form, just some slight rain and hint of sunlight can cause the light reflections to paint the sky.

A few rainbows could be seen above the Las Vegas Valley today during light scattered showers, said Barry Pierce, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

“There have been a few sightings of some rainbows with the sun peeking out,” Pierce said.

Today’s weather brought just a trace of precipitation, Pierce said. “It’s been on and off through the rest of the afternoon.”

Anywhere from .04 to .08 of an inch of rain could be felt in the area west of Rainbow Boulevard, Pierce said.

The light drizzle was brought in by a system that will be moving east over Arizona by tonight, Pierce said. This system also came with some cooler temperatures.

Today’s high reached 51 degrees, about 8 degrees below normal, Pierce said.
